The Thouron Award supports graduate study in the U.K., for graduating seniors, graduate students or recent graduates of the University of Pennsylvania. Applicants must be American citizens and have completed their high school education within the U.S. The Award covers full tuition and fees for up to two years (Master’s) or three years (Ph.D.) of study in most full-time graduate degree-granting programmes offered in the U.K.
Funding after the first year of tenure depends upon annual confirmation of a Scholar’s satisfactory progress towards their chosen degree. In addition to tuition and fees, the Award includes an annual stipend sufficient to cover living costs and to encourage entertainment and travel.
In recent years, the Thouron Award has granted as many as ten Awards for study at Penn and a similar number for study in the U.K. As a general rule, the Award will not provide funding for a period longer than that requested in a Scholar’s application. Further, with regard to degree programmes that have a standard or expected period for completion (such as most Master’s programmes), the Award will not provide funding beyond that period.
